KAREN COLEMAN & MADALEINE PRITCHARD - Acoustic Soul Tour 2010(Upstairs)
win = new Window('window_id', {className: "alphacube", title: "Gig Information @ www.dolanspub.com", width:600, height:300});
win.getContent().innerHTML = "<h4> Original songs that combine elements of Pop, Rock, Soul and Jazz
“Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life” --- Bertold Auerbach
Songs about life, love, redemption, hope, affirmation and loss. Two talented women combine forces to present acoustic versions of some of their self-penned compositions taken from each of their respective debut albums. Having both previously worked together as session vocalists Karen and Madaleine have since forged individual careers as songwriters and solo performers. After recently re-uniting and re-igniting their on-stage chemistry they have decided to take on Ireland as a tour de force with their first joint tour “Acoustic Soul”. They bring with them some of the best musicians from New York, Italy, Scotland and Ireland.
Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Madaleine Pritchard has made an impression as one of Scotland’s top performers on the music scene. Live appearances have included singing on stage as a guest vocalist with The Average White Band and Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) and performing with some of the UK’s well known musical talent such as Edwin Collins, Paul Carrick of Mike And The Mechanics. Ricky Ross and Lorraine McIntosh (Deacon Blue) and The Codeine Velvet Club. Other highlights have been opening for The Fun Lovin Criminals, The Average White Band, Al Green, Dr.John, Mayer Hawthorne, Hue and Cry, and British soul diva Alice Russell of The Quantic Soul Orchestra.
Recently Madaleine released her debut album “Every Minute” to critical acclaim.
“A ferocious talent. The production quality of this album is outstanding”
Linley Hamilton, BBC Radio Ulster
“Even in pop there is no substitute for sheer class, and Madaleine Pritchard has class by the bucket load. I also suspect she has a little ragtime in her soul…”
Stephen Duffy, BBC Radio Scotland
”A star in the making and one to watch out for in the future!!!
Sean Neilson, Pulse Radio Glasgow
Karen Coleman is one of Ireland’s most prolific and well-known session vocalists. She began her career as a backing singer for Andrew Strong and later joined as a member of The Stars of The Commitments touring countries around the world including Australia, USA, Canada, Africa, Europe and Scandinavia. She has performed on stage with soul legends Steve Cropper, Clarence Clemmons, Sam Moore and Dennis Edwards of The Temptations and has also worked with acclaimed artists Philip Donnelly, Mary Coughlan, Delores Keane and Don Baker.
In 2010, Karen launched her first long awaited solo album entitled No Secret.
“Her voice just blew me away!”
Lynsey Dolan, Country Mix FM
“No Secret is long overdue, but well worth the wait. Stylish arrangements stretch beyond the predictable pop/soul formula like the sparkling Chardonnay and the beguiling poignancy of Father”
Hot Press ****
“Karen’s success is No Secret”

win.getContent().innerHTML = "<h4> Practically all hailing from Limerick (apart from a Galwegian and Aussie that snuck in), The Brad Pitt Light Orchestra’s music is a blend of warm vocal harmonies and classy instrumentation. The BPLO’s ear-catching melodies are desperately hard to categorize yet strangely easy to love.
Storming on from the success of the band\'s first two singles \"December\" and \"Soon!\" which have both received plenty of attention on national airwaves (and gained fans in the form of Today FM\'s Paul Mcloone and 2FM\'s Jenny Huston) the long-awaited debut is launched with this gig in Dolans. Released on Limerick label Silly Goose Records, BPLO arrive fresh from the Electric Picnic with the first date of their national tour in support of the album.
Come on down and experience the full sensory assault that is BPLO live on home ground. When records show this as the most important day in rock\'n\'roll history, you\'ll be able to say \"I was there\". La Boutique and Limerick Pride Present Niamh Kavanagh(Warehouse)
win = new Window('window_id', {className: "alphacube", title: "Gig Information @ www.dolanspub.com", width:600, height:300});
win.getContent().innerHTML = "<h4> La Boutique and Limerick Pride Present Niamh Kavannagh
Ireland\'s premier Diva will be introduced by the Queens of Ireland Sheila Fitzpatrick and Madonna Lucia and followed by La Boutique.
Niamh Kavanagh
Described as the “Rolls Royce of Irish singers”, Niamh Kavanagh has appeared twice for Ireland at the Eurovision finals.
In the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest , before an international audience of over 350 million people, Niamh wowed audiences with a powerful rendition of In Your Eyes and achieved a resounding victory for Ireland. The second of Ireland’s famous three-in-a row victories, the song, In Your Eyes, went on to achieve double platinum status.
Niamh returned to the Eurovision stage in 2010 with the song It’s For You. An Irish/Swedish collaboration, the emotional ballad perfectly showcased her ability to tell a story through a song and Niamh took Ireland through a strong semi-final into the finals after a three year absence. It wasn’t to be Niamh’s year on the tele-voting, but her inspirational performance produced the only standing ovation of the night from the 18,000 crowd at the Telenor Centre in Oslo.
Niamh has been singing for most of her life, beginning with choirs and small local bands, training her voice, while at the same time indulging her love for music. She really came into her own in 1990 when Alan Parker, director of The Commitments film, paid tribute to her vocal talent featuring her commanding renditions of several soul classics on the film’s hugely successful soundtrack album. She toured extensively with the group performing at such illustrious events as the 1992 Grammy Awards in New York and the Commitment to Life Concert in Los Angeles.
Niamh has also collaborated with some of the finest Irish and international artists including, Mary Chapin-Carpenter, who featured on her debut album, Flying Blind and complimented Niamh on her unique voice. Niamh also made an acclaimed contribution to the Secret Garden album, Inside I’m Singing. Her rendition of Simply You, joins other songs written by ESC winners Secret Garden and Brendan Graham, and saw her sharing album space with Elaine Paige and Barbra Streisand.
Renowned for the strength and adaptability of her voice; able to produce in turn the depth and resonance of jazz, the pure clarity of the ballad, the power of rhythm and blues and the driving energy of the very best of soul music, this is Niamh Kavanagh and “It’s For You”.

Peggy Sue with Sons of Noel and Adrian(Upstairs)
win = new Window('window_id', {className: "alphacube", title: "Gig Information @ www.dolanspub.com", width:600, height:300});
win.getContent().innerHTML = "<h4> \"It’s in terms of sheer vocal prowess that Peggy Sue really come into their own, the duo’s spine-tingling harmonies elevating them from pretty damn impressive to all-out, head-over-heels brilliant\"
(NME)
\"they combat melancholy though with some startlingly abrasive, PJ Harvey-style guitars, giddy whirls of accordion and a thrilling array of clattering, thundering, sharp and snappy percussion.\"
(The Guardian-4 stars)
Peggy Sue are doubly blessed with having two songwriters in Rosa and Katy and with the addition of drummer Olly early last year, together they’ve developed the Peggy Sue sound. A sound they’ve honed playing shows with Mumford & Sons, Laura Marling, The Maccabees – all big Peggy Sue fans and part of a loose-knit community of like-minded musicians. Peggy Sue have toured with them all, bewitching audiences from Glastonbury to Brixton Academy; similarly, offers to work on their album have been forthcoming, ‘Fossils And Other Phantoms’ has songs produced by Steve A en Lovett of Mumford & Sons, the rest of the album was recorded in Brooklyn with producers Alex Newport (Two Gallants) and John Askew (The Dodos).
The brooding, rhythmic, kiss-off that is ‘Watchman’ was Peggy Sue’s first single on Wichita, released March 22nd following a European tour as special guests to Local Natives including a sold out show in the Academy 2 in Dublin. Peggy Sue is set to support Seasick Steve at the Open House Festival in Belfast on Sept 12th, preceding the start of their first full length Irish tour on September 14th with support from fellow Brighton-based folk act Sons of Noel and Adrian.
Sons of Noel and Adrian
“Next up were Brighton’s Sons of Noel and Adrian with their incredibly innovative brand of trance like experimental folk and a lead vocal that fell somewhere between Thom Yorke
and Neil Young”
(Colin Cosgrove – Heineken Music)
Part of Brighton’s infamous Willkommen Collective, Sons of Noel and Adrian are best friends, Jacob Richardson and Tom Cowan along with anywhere up to ten like-minded supporting musicians. Sons unique brand of folk-noir is mesmerizing to witness live as their dark and brooding folk continuously and effortlessly transcends multiple genres. Sons of Noel and Adrian are truly a band at the top of their game.
In the wake of their successful Irish tour in January, playing support to O Emperor in front of sold out
shows in Dublin, Cork and Waterford, Sons of Noel and Adrian plan on returning for their second Irish
tour this year as support to Peggy Sue.

“If my thoughts are hard to gather / if I don’t know where to start / it ain’t my mind that matters / for I have an unsophisticated heart.” - Joe Pug, “Unsophisticated Heart”
It worked like this, for Joe Pug: The day before his senior year as a playwright student at the University of North Carolina, he sat down for a cup of coffee and had the clearest thought of his life: I am profoundly unhappy here. Then came the second clearest.
Pug packed up his belongings and pointed his car towards Chicago. Working as a carpenter by day, the 23 year-old Pug spent nights playing the guitar he hadn’t picked up since his teenage years. Using ideas originally slated for a play he was writing called “Austin Fish,” Pug began creating the sublime lyrical arrangements that would become the Nation of Heat EP. The songs were recorded fast and fervently at a Chicago studio where a friend snuck him in to late night slots other musicians had canceled. He was short on money, but his bare-boned sincerity didn’t require much more than a microphone and it dripped off of each note he sang.
The early rumblings of critical praise for the EP were confirmed when his first headlining gig sold out Chicago’s storied Schubas Tavern in 2008. As word spread, Pug struck upon an idea that would later prove to be one of the most significant in his young career. He offered his existing fans unlimited copies of a free 2-song sampler CD to pass along to their friends. He sent the CDs out at his own expense, even covering the postage. Inside each package was a personal note thanking the fan for helping to spread the word. The response was overwhelming, and to date he has sent out over 15,000 CDs to 50 states and 14 different countries. Without access to radio, Pug managed to turn his fans into his very own broadcast system. The offer still stands, and to this day it’s featured prominently on www.joepugmusic.com.
“Look, in the end, I just trust my fans, and the nature of people in general. I need to pay my bills like anyone else does. But I also don’t think it’s right to ask someone to pay $15 when they don’t know what they’re getting. So in a way by sending out these CDs, I’m wagering that they’ll like my music, and that if they do they’ll come to shows, buy CDs, and help me spread the word even further. And so far I’ve been proven right. Without question, the more sampler CDs I send out, the more music I sell.”
Nation of Heat took on a life of its own, passing from friend to friend and iPod to iPod. The crowds swelled and the media took notice. Tours in the USA with Steve Earle, M. Ward, and Josh Ritter followed, as did invitations to Lollapalooza and the Newport Folk Festival. He crisscrossed the country incessantly, traveling mostly alone in his 1995 Plymouth Voyager with no stereo or air conditioning. As the tours went on, he became closely linked to the burgeoning indie-folk scene that was coalescing loosely around Pug and his young contemporaries in bands such as The Low Anthem, Langhorne Slim, and Horse Feathers.
After over 200 shows, Pug took a brief respite to record his full-length debut. If Nation of Heat heralded the arrival of a talent to watch, Messenger assigns Pug a more deserved spot. From the opening notes of the title track that leads off the record, it’s clear that the artist has no intention of retreating to the comfortable or the familiar. While the scathing war indictment “Bury Me Far (From My Uniform)” and the sparse, poetic “Unsophisticated Heart” illustrate that Pug is still a master of the guy-and-guitar song, it’s the supporting cast Pug brought on board that truly brings out the record’s subtle beauty.
From the haunting, ethereal pedal steel guitar that sneaks delicately under “The Sharpest Crown” to the barrelhouse rhythm section that propels “The Door Is Always Open”, it’s clear that Pug is as comfortable exploring this new territory as he is solo. “The first record, it was a breeze,” he says. “Didn’t even know we were making it, just me and a guitar…the songs completely unadorned. This one, it’s like that thing where there’s an explosion and you realize how many options there are in the world.”
With his debut album finally out, the options only get more numerous for the 25 year-old-singer. He already made his Irish debut shows supporting Steve Earle (who has quite literally taken the young Pug under his wing) and Josh Ritter on tour in April and returns to Ireland in early September for headline duties (date to be announced).

John Cooper Clarke(Upstairs)
win = new Window('window_id', {className: "alphacube", title: "Gig Information @ www.dolanspub.com", width:600, height:300});
win.getContent().innerHTML = "<h4> John Cooper Clarke was born on the 25 January 1949 at Hope Hospital, Salford, Lancashire. His father George was an engineer, and his mother, Hilda, was an unpublished poet. He has one younger brother.After teenage years as a Mod, John served time as an apprentice engineer, a lab technician at Salford University (then Salford Tech, where he was interviewed by Tony Wilson for Granada TV) and also a lead type compositor. After a brief unsuccessful marriage, and a stint living in Dorset, John returned to Manchester and started reading his poems in clubs.
By 1976 and the arrival of punk, he was initially the support act for many seminal punk bands such as the Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks, The Fall, Joy Division, Elvis Costello and Siouxsie and the Banshees, to name but a few; His biting, satirical, political and very funny verse delivered in a rapid-fire performance style. Before long, John was headlining his own gigs and drawing huge crowds of fans. John had an striking visual appearance; tall and thin with a mess of black hair, black sunglasses, drainpipe trousers and cuban-heeled boots. He was dubbed “The Bard of Salford” and given the moniker “punk poet”. During those heady days, John recorded four studio albums, and released two live LPs. He also had limited success with the release a few singles, but it was the live arena where John found the greatest success and acclaim.
As punk began to wane in the early 1980’s, John’s star seemed to fade a bit also. He found himself with a personal battle on his hands as he struggled with a serious heroin addiction, which he eventually kicked in the early 90’s. During this time, he met his current partner, Evie, who is also mum to John’s daughter, Stella, born in 1994.
Since the punk days, he has been recognised as one of England’s most important poets and performers. Despite this, he shuns publicity and interviews, as he hates talking about himself. He has said, however, that he enjoys performing now more than he ever used to, having more confidence and stability in his life.
As a result of the current popularity of the 70’s punk phenomenon, John has been seen and heard more in the media over the last few years than in the last few decades. Sky TV recently dedicated an entire night’s programming to John, the Culture Show on BBC interviewed him for a special feature, and he made a brief cameo as his younger self in the Ian Curtis biopic, “Control”.
John now lives with his family in Colchester, and, unwilling to rest on the laurels of times past, continues to write new, vital poetry, and regularly perform live all over the country. </h4>";

Joined by his two Royal Academy colleagues award-winning 24 year old bassist Calum Gourlay and 23 year old rising drum star James Maddren the music displays a level of understanding and intelligence between players that can only come from working closely together for a number of years. They read each other perfectly.
The band has spent these years developing their own personal sound. The highly original music is immediately arresting and stands repeated listening. It uses melody, inspired from a range of sources ranging from Bela Bartok to Keith Jarrett to Rufus Wainwright, and endeavours both to celebrate the classic piano trio tradition as well as develop it.

Limerick Jazz Society Presents Francesco Turrisi Trio " Si Dolce e il Tormento’(Upstairs)

‘This exquisite CD….. this particularly striking trio’ - Irish Times
Francesco Turrisi is a pianist, accordionist, harpsichordist and percussionist now living in Dublin. In 1997 he left his native Italy to study jazz piano and early music at The Royal Conservatory in the Hague, where he obtained his Master’s degree.
Between 2004 and 2007 he played harpsichord and percussion with acclaimed early music ensemble l’Arpeggiata, performing at many of the most important early music festivals of the world. Since moving to Ireland, he has become a focal point of the domestic jazz scene, and the founder of Tarab, an ensemble experimenting with different elements of Mediterranean music, jazz improvisation and Irish traditional music. Tarab’s 2007 performance at the National Concert Hall was described by The Irish Times as “the most enchanting music I have heard this year”.
Francesco has worked with many notable artists from the diverse field of Jazz, Early and World musics, including Dave Liebman, Jean Toussaint, Gianluigi Trovesi, Gabriele Mirabassi, Maria Pia de Vito, John Ruocco, The King’s Singers, Veronique Gens, Dominique Visse, Philippe Jaroussky, Vittorio Ghielmi, Pepe el Habichuela, Lucilla Galeazzi, Bijan Chemirani, Abdullah Chhadeh, Ronan Guilfoyle and Julie Feeney.
‘Si Dolce’ is inspired by 17th century Italian melodies, harmonic progressions and forms. The music is orchestrated for Jazz Piano trio, augmented on certain tracks by the addition of a Bass Clarinet, and on two pieces, a rare 17th century extended lute, called the Theorbo.

win.getContent().innerHTML = "<h4> GENERAL FIASCO ANNOUNCE NEW UK & IRELAND TOUR
Hot on the heels of a jam-packed festival run that see the band play the likes of Oxegen, T in the Park, Reading & Leeds, Underage, Summer Sonic and Pukkelpop festivals; the Irish trio are set to headline their own UK & Ireland tour this October.
Anticipation is building around what will be the band\'s first Irish headline tour, with the Irish news dubbing them \'a force to be reckoned with live\' and recent T in the Park reviews lauding their \'rousing beats and punky anthems... a massive hit with the crowd\' (Sunday Mail).
General Fiasco have earned the praise of rock audiences across the UK from their recent Kids in Glass Houses support tour culminating in a nomination for Best British Newcomer at the Kerrang! Awards later this month.
General Fiasco are a feisty Northern Irish trio comprising of Owen Strathern on Lead vocals and bass, his brother Enda Strathern on Lead guitar and vocals and their friend Stephen Leacock on drums.
Their debut album ‘Buildings’ due to be released in March 2010 reflects the frustration felt watching friends succumb to alcohol and doing nothing to better their lives.
“It’s all quite upbeat, poppy and rocky but the contents are all pretty bleak,” says Owen, “It was being aware of everybody wrecking themselves and not realising it. I’m sure everyone has something they really want to strive for, something they really want to achieve and it’s the frustration of not being fit to achieve it yourself and watching people not even try.”
By the age of eighteen Owen had been playing bass with another act for a few years, occasionally gigging at their home town Magherafelt’s sole rock bar with his younger brother Enda on guitar. The local scene was big on talk, small on walk; everyone dreamed of getting out of Northern Ireland, but nobody knew how.
Owen put off university in 2006 and dedicated a year to becoming a rock star, writing songs with enough weight and velocity to power their way out of Magherafelt’s cultural black hole. He roped in his brother and schoolmate Stephen and in 2007 General Fiasco moved to Belfast. Their first gig as a three-piece was at Glasgowbury 2007, Northern Ireland’s biggest unsigned music festival. A demo in the summer of 2008 landed them a spot on the BBC Introducing Stage at that year’s Reading & Leeds festival. Their first single ‘Rebel Get By’ was released in November 2008 and their second single ‘Something Sometime’ became Zane Lowe’s ‘Hottest Record In The World’. They signed to Infectious that Summer.
In the past twelve months they’ve played the BBC Electric Proms; supported Snow Patrol, Fighting with Wire, The Pigeon Detectives, The Answer and The Enemy amongst others; and embarked on their own headline tour.
The band caused a fiasco when they played on the 5.19 show which ended in a power cut through the entire BBC building. Evidently the excitement around this band just keeps on Building…

As the multitude of quotes about her new album suggest, Kate Nash has burst back onto the UK music scene with her second album ‘My Best Friend Is You’ bigger and bolder than ever. Since its worldwide release at the end of April Kate has circumnavigated the world and along the way she has won over the hearts and minds of critics and fans across the US, through mainland Europe and later this summer she will be hitting Australia.
October 2010 will see Kate Nash take the album out onto the road for its first full tour of duty in the UK, culminating with a return to home turf in London at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire. It comes on the back an already sold-out European tour. Kate has also a full UK festival schedule this summer including performances at Glastonbury, iTunes, T in the Park, Oxegen and V Festivals. This year’s winner of the Best Irish Female at the Meteor Awards, Wallis Bird, has announced her first tour in Ireland since the sold out shows of October 2009.
Wallis Bird is back with her second album, ‘New Boots’, the follow-up to 2007’s ‘Spoons’. Having toured over the last two years with artists as diverse as the legendary Billy Bragg and Ivor Novello award winner Gabrielle, as well as playing over eighty headlining shows in Europe during 2008, Wallis rounded off last year by clinching one of the biggest TV campaigns of the year when her storming cover of ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’ was used on a nationwide advertisement.
An impassioned performer, ‘New Boots’ captures much of the live energy of her shows. A 5 ft 2 bundle of white heat, Wallis throws herself around the stage with willful abandon, breaking strings, shredding her fingers from the sheer force of her playing, urging the crowd into a collective sing-a-long and throwing her entire soul into each performance with often breath-taking results. Having impressed everyone with the intensity and passion of her live shows, Wallis has nurtured a gig-going following whose admiration borders on the devotional. Her live shows and album release have garnered her rave reviews from all quarters, with 4* reviews being given by national publications.

Cathy Davey(Warehouse)
win = new Window('window_id', {className: "alphacube", title: "Gig Information @ www.dolanspub.com", width:600, height:300});
win.getContent().innerHTML = "<h4> 2010 is turning into a landmark year for Cathy Davey. Her album The Nameless hit number One the same day as a sell out Olympia Theatre Show. Her gig at Oxegen was one of the weekend’s highlights and she is sure to do the same at this year’s Electric Picnic. Cathy and her band are now preparing to head out on a 20 date Irish Tour in October - catch her while you can…
The Nameless is Cathy\'s third album. Cathy was born in Dublin, and grew up in Monkstown. She found her way into music almost accidentally. She was signed by Parlophone\'s Regal Recordings after a batch of home-recorded demos caused a bit of a stir, and played her first live date shortly thereafter. Spirited away to a studio in Wales, she set to work on her debut album with producer Ben Hillier, who\'d previously worked with Elbow and Blur. The result, Something Ilk, was a gorgeous collection of songs both sultry and sweet, with melodies that soared and guitars that buzzed, drawing comparisons to PJ Harvey and all those other female songwriters that female songwriters often seem to draw comparisons to. At any rate, most of these comparisons fell by the wayside with time, as Cathy managed to wriggle out of the indie-rock role that Parlophone had given her. She\'d never felt comfortable making her voice heard in label discussions, and found that her debut was \"very much other people\'s idea of what I should sound like.\" She found it difficult to perform the songs with confidence, and began to yearn
for more independence.
She took her time to make the follow-up, and made it on her terms. Tales of Silversleeve found its beginnings in some home demos Cathy recorded by herself, and brought with her, fully formed, into the studio. Over the three years since the release of Something Ilk, Cathy had learned how to have more faith in the songs themselves, and this time, with the help of engineer Liam Howe of Sneaker Pimps, the end result didn\'t stray far from her original vision. Hit singles like \'Sing for your Supper\', and \'Reuben\' ( a no 1 radio hit) had a depth and emotional touch that she\'d been hiding, and there was a confidence in her live shows, too, that won her many new converts.
Keeping control of the creative process from inception to studio had paid off. As someone who had always craved the independence of songwriting, Cathy
came into her own, no longer dreading the stage, but thriving in her live performances. Several full tours of Ireland followed, as well as well-received sets at prestigious international festivals such as SXSW and Eurosonic. In the end, Silversleeve would win Cathy a Choice Music Prize Nomination, and the Meteor Award for Best Irish Female. The Irish Times saying \"There\'s no better female songwriter in Irish music right now\". Silversleeve achieved her a place in the Irish Times top ten Albums of the Decade; the only woman and the only Irish artist to feature there. Tales Of Silversleeve would go on to achieve double-platinum status, and accompanying it Cathy undertook an astonishing run of two and half years of sold-out shows.
In 2008, at just the right time, the record industry underwent something of a crisis, and EMI dropped much of its roster. Cathy found herself suddenly granted the independence she had been seeking, and immediately began work on new material. Retreating to France for a month with a couple of suitcases packed with equipment, and knowing little French, she found herself recording in a setting that would come to influence the songs in unexpected ways. Having spent many nights in a quiet old house belonging to a quiet old widow, she came home with a handful of joyful songs about love, absence and death, and declared: \"Silversleeve is grand. But I\'ll do better next time\".
She\'s been true to her word. The Nameless has more of Cathy\'s personality in it than any of her previous work, and the effect is astonishing. There\'s a
darkness here that is more prominent than before, but it\'s coupled expertly with songs as fine as anything she\'s ever written. Lead single \'Little Red\'is the kind of song that will be adopted as a new national anthem, if there\'s any justice. A pop gem that grew out of long dark nights in that spooky old French house, it\'s got a soaring chorus coupled to a string section that swells and swoons. It\'s a fine indicator of the songwriting heights Cathy has reached.
She\'s brought back members of her band too: Conor J. O\'Brien has returned on to play some guitar and some drums, taking a break from recording his debut
album as Villagers. Choice Music Prize winner Neil Hannon is here to lend his voice too, helping to make songs like \'Army of Tears\' grow into the best Eurovision entry that never was, with imperious violins accompanying an oddly danceable beat. The record is full of moments of genius, moments that grab you and explain, as only great music can, how beautiful life can be. Songs like \'Habit\' have already been causing a stir among those lucky enough to hear it, with Irish Times scribe Jim Carroll describing it as a \"monster song with a heart of gold and a mind to mine the dark side.\" With The Nameless, Cathy Davey is set to make a permanent mark on Irish music, and she\'s doing it her way.

Are you sitting comfortably? Brace yourself for a few bombshells as Greg Felton’s trio go head to head with the incomparable vocalist Isa Wiss. Tipped as a major star of the future, Wiss is one of those musicians who defies description; her remarkable technique and three-octave
range make her a truly free improviser who can switch from stuttering gasps and cries to honeyed tones in a single phrase. Greg Felton is the perfect foil for Wiss’ vocal acrobatics.
Hailed in the Irish Times as “the most gifted young pianist on the scene,” Felton is another fearless improviser whose distinctive compositions and two-fisted technique draw on
everything from jazz and folk traditions to South Indian classical music. His intuitive and often playful approach to music is shared by drummer Seán Carpio, whose seductive grooves have made him a regular collaborator with Mikkel Ploug, Sebastien Texier, Louis Stewart and Ronan Guilfoyle. The line-up is completed by bassist Cormac O’Brien, a fellow stalwart on the Irish jazz scene who has also played with international stars such as Bobby Watson, Jamie Baum, Dave Allen, Bjorn Vidar Solli and Bruce Adams.

Lloyd Cole Small Ensemble (Featuring Lloyd Cole, Mark Schwaber & Matt Cullen)(Warehouse)

New Album - Broken Record
Scheduled Release – 13th September 2010
\"About a year ago, after almost a decade in self imposed exile as a would be folksinger, I developed an itch I wasn’t expecting. It seemed that there were aspects to my old life in rock and roll that I missed. Tour buses and product managers, certainly not. But the interacting with musicians, the camaraderie and the joy of hearing one’s music enhanced, and elevated by the aesthetic of others, absolutely. Damn.
I never wanted to make records alone, but somehow I ended up spending much of the 2000’s in a studio with just a bunch of equipment and a computer, or touring with a suitcase and two guitars. Two things made me realise that I needed to rejoin the fray, at least for a little while - I had written some songs which demanded a beat, and I was having great fun with my new acoustic trio - The Small Ensemble. Why not make a rock(ing) record, or whatever it is that 49 year olds make when they try to do that?
Money, for one. I couldn’t afford to just not tour for 6 months and spend $65,000. And I certainly wasn’t about to go looking for a major record deal… Fortunately I’d been working the last few years with Tapete records in Hamburg on a couple of projects and I felt that our relationship was good. I like them and trust them. I’m not interested in doing business with folk I don’t like any more. My friends at XIII Bis in France were also interested. Tapete said they could front some of the budget. For the rest I followed the example of my old Negative pal Jill Sobule and I asked my fans for money. 1000 very forward thinking, not to mention trusting, folk paid $45 for a deluxe edition of an album which wasn’t even recorded.
I emailed my ideal band - I was making a record, in a studio, old school with tape. Interested? NB. The money is not much, and not negotiable. All said yes. I had a studio band -
Drums, Percussion - Fred Maher (Scritti Politti, Lou Reed, Matthew Sweet, my first two solo records)

Production and Vocals - Dave Derby (Dambuilders, The Negatives, Grammercy Arms, Brilliantine)
Mixing - Mick Glossop
Dave Bates, my man at Fontana way back when, kindly agreed to A&R the record.

Down to business -
Fred, Rainy, Mark, Dave and I began rehearsals in Williamsburg, NY on March 1st. The next week basic tracks were recorded in Manhattan’s The Magic Shop, engineered by Geoff Sanoff. Overdubs were done mostly close to my home in W. Massachusetts at Slaughterhouse Studios, engineered by Mark Alan Miller. The final recording session (excepting the one vocal recorded during mixing) was April 3rd.
About a month before rehearsals commenced I had about 15 song ideas for the record of which only seven or eight were actually finished or close enough not to worry about. We narrowed it down to twelve to record. I then entered a state of songwriting frenzy which, frankly, undermined my enjoyment of the sessions. We had a deadline. The songs must be completed or I’m screwed. Not to mention Tapete, and the 1000 investors.
Well, we made it. The final lyric was written and then recorded at Mick Glossop’s Magazine Studio in West London on April 22nd, leaving us two days to mix the song and fine tune the rest. Amazingly there was time for a beer (only one) at the end of the final day.
You will need to ask me for details of the recordings, or go to my Studio Journal - http://www.lloydcole.com/weblog/index.php?cat=30 - there is far more than you need there.
The whole experience was, for me, rewarding, perplexing, fabulously enjoyable and heinously stressful. Singing with a rock and roll band in the studio I felt exactly as I did in 1987, or 1995 and then I would see my reflection in the glass of the gobo and wonder who this old guy was… I’m happy we got these songs finished, because I’m not sure I’ll make another record like this again. Having said that, I’m never going back to that room with the computer…
The album is eleven songs all of which I wrote, one to a tune of Blair’s. Tapete will release it in September and there will even be a vinyl 33 and 45RPMs. What kind of record is it? I don’t know. I’m going to ask two friends who know the record well to add a short paragraph each.
Dave Derby - It was an honor and a joy to work on a record with so many great musical minds and--most importantly--so many great songs. The camaraderie and unity of purpose we all had was inspiring. I remember years ago reading an interview with some producer who talked about the difference between working with American and English artists. He summed it up by saying that if you gave an American band an hour to work up a song and a British band an hour to work up a song the American band would spend about 5 minutes talking and 55 minutes jamming whereas the British band would spend about 40 minutes talking and 20 minutes playing. I\'m not sure how that relates to this project to be honest: Lloyd is the only Brit in the band and between the combination a somewhat anglophilic yank and an Americanophilic limey our combined musical sensibility puts us somewhere near the Azores. I do know that we did a lot of talking, and a lot of listening. And a healthy amount of drinking of course ...
Dirk Darmstaedter - Broken Record is the freshest and most lively sounding record I‘ve heard from Lloyd in years! Though I totally love the gentle feel of the last few albums (Music In a Foreign Language being one of my all time favorites), I had almost forgotten how cool Lloyd sounds with a great band behind him. Oh, yeah...and truly excellent songs as well! Writers Retreat!... Wow, where does this stuff come from ????
I will be in Europe in July to talk to many of you who are reading this, and then again in September for the release of the album. There will be solo shows on both trips. For all shows see - http://www.lloydcole.com/weblog/?cat=11
The Small Ensemble will tour in October and November and beyond that, I can’t say. Hopefully the album will be a hug success and we’ll be on the road for several years.

As if he\'s never been away, Ian Broudie returns this spring with a new Lightning Seeds album, the first for ten years, featuring ten new songs written and produced by Broudie. Wrapped in melody and full of the kind of timeless emotional depth we\'ve come to expect from him, \"Four Winds\" is both uplifting and thought provoking. It\'s a beautiful album that strikes a warm fuzzy familiar chord while managing to reach a new musical maturity. \"It\'s not like I\'ve ever been away, really\", Ian says. \"I\'ve been a part of music all my life and that never stops. "Naked Fish" -An Intimate Evening with Jerry Fish(Upstairs)
win = new Window('window_id', {className: "alphacube", title: "Gig Information @ www.dolanspub.com", width:600, height:300});
win.getContent().innerHTML = "<h4> Jerry Fish is the alter ego of Singer Gerard Whelan who through the 1990’s was the main creative force behind the band An Emotional Fish.
Jerry was courted and signed to Atlantic Records by the labels legendary founder the late, great and much loved Ahmet Ertugen.
Jerry Fish sups from a well that is sunk way beneath the topsoil of pop. Once he left the constraints of the four piece rock format, he found a whole universe of music suddenly become a tangible and touchable prospect: New Orleans Jazz, Noir Soundtracks, all manner of Odd Mondo Scenes and Broken Mambo Jive.
Jerry Fish’s swaggering vocal has been described as Tom Waits in a good mood, or Leonard Cohen doing Dean Martin. Yes, the smiles come aplenty and witty lyrics are definitely Mr. Fish’s currency of choice, but Jerry’s songs have been so well crafted that they deserve more than a casual, amused listen.
His latest album ‘The Beautiful Untrue’ is ‘one of those records that raises the cool in the room without breaking a sweat.’ ‘Jim Jarmusch would pawn his brothel creepers for the rights.’
Jerry Fish lists his influences as “Beat poetry, dog, bone and sailor stories, Tom Waits, Dean Martin, Dr John, Jacques Brel, Ray Charles, One Mint Julep, Mingus, Ellington”, and his sound as “Indie Lounge Lizard Schmooze, Mariachi Swampadelica”. He ticks all those eclectic boxes.
For the first time in his career Jerry Fish has come together with his good friend, renowned Jazz Pianist Justin Carroll to present an unforgettable evening of song. So good it should not be missed.

The Coronas - Thursday December 2nd(Warehouse)
win = new Window('window_id', {className: "alphacube", title: "Gig Information @ www.dolanspub.com", width:600, height:300});
win.getContent().innerHTML = "<h4> Second Date Added!
The Corona’s Christmas shows have become one of the highlight gigs of the Christmas period with their show last December completely SOLD OUT resulting in the group adding 3 Academy shows in January to cope with the huge demand. The group were nominated for 2 Meteor Ireland Music Awards at this year’s 10 year anniversary ceremony taking away Best Irish Album on the night.
The band’s debut LP - 2007’s Heroes or Ghosts - achieved platinum sales in Ireland, and spawned massive singles such as “Grace, Don’t Wait!”, “Heroes or Ghosts” and especially “San Diego Song” which became an anthem in clubs and radio stations all across the country.
The Dublin quartet quickly followed its’ release with sell-out shows nationwide, two meteor award nominations and a spellbinding set on the main stage at Oxegen. All this along with tours in the U.S., UK and Asia, has enabled the Coronas to establish themselves as one of Irelands’ biggest new bands.
“We’ve worked really hard for the last two years but taking a break never really occurred to us”, says lead singer Danny O’Reilly. “We wanted to continue to build on what we had going and we knew the only way to do that was to go into the studio and record an album that we felt blew Heroes (or Ghosts) out of the water”.
“We were quite young when we recorded Heroes or Ghosts”, concurs guitarist Dave McPhillips (indeed they had all just turned 21). “And, although we were so proud of it, we really didn’t expect it to do as well as it did. The last couple of years on the road, constantly gigging and developing our sound, left us with a better idea of the album we wanted to make”
Indeed anyone who has become accustomed to the Coronas own brand of pop-rock tunes will have plenty of reason to cheer when it comes to their new album, Tony Was An Ex-Con, recorded over 6 weeks in the prestigious Sawmills studio in Cornwall. This time round the guys teamed up with esteemed producer John Cornfield (Muse, Razorlight, Oasis). “Working with John in the mill (Sawmills) was an amazing experience”, says bassist Knoxy. “We thought that, with his resume, he’d be telling us exactly what to do but he was really cool and just let us do our thing. It was a really chilled-out, productive atmosphere.”
The title track comes from an incredible story about the lads on tour in America, involving a psychotic bus driver who left the entire entourage fearing for their lives. “It’s funny looking back at it now, but at the time it was really quite scary”, says drummer Conor Egan. McPhillips: “The song was one of the first new songs that set us off on the writing spree that led to the entire record so it felt like the right title”
In Tony Was An Ex-Con, The Coronas\' fans will once again be reminded of the endearing spirit that made Heroes or Ghosts a true word-of-mouth success, while many will be impressed by how far they’ve come musically.
“We’re so proud of this record”, says O’Reilly. “We realised along time ago that it’s impossible to try to impress everyone. You can only make music that you believe in yourself - be it pop, rock, indie, rap, whatever. Hopefully the tunes will speak for themselves”.

Dolans Dot Comedy Club presents JASON BYRNE with SPECIAL GUEST & MC Karl Spain(Warehouse)
win = new Window('window_id', {className: "alphacube", title: "Gig Information @ www.dolanspub.com", width:600, height:300});
win.getContent().innerHTML = "<h4> Jason Byrne 2010.
Fresh from a 14th sell out year at the Edinburgh festival Jason Byrne takes his fringe show ‘Jason Byrne 2010’ to all his favourite Irish venues. Jason Byrne is probably the most exciting live stand up performer in the world today. I know, sounds like some overstated press drivel but as anyone who has seen him live will testify, it isn’t.
Jason is also the biggest selling comedian at the Edinburgh Fringe festival ... ever! Now that just sounds like a lie ... but it isn’t.
Such is Jason’s popularity in Australia that next year he may have to spend at least 3 months there, I only tell you this because this tour may be your only chance to see him in Ireland for quite some time. Because apart from the rest of the world wanting him for all their very own, this autumn alone he will be working on a 5th series of ‘Anonymous’ (RTE2), The Wildside (BBC1), a third series of ‘The Jason Byrne Show’ (BBC Radio 2) and a new radio sitcom ‘Father Figure’ (BBC Radio 2).
‘A quick silver mind and a touch of madness make him one of the all time greats’ – Time Out.
‘An hour of stand up so joyous the clinically depressed should get it on prescription’ – Metro.
