Music for Mental Health 2022 Returns as a Matinée, Sunday, January 16

The annual Music for Mental Health gig returns to Dolans Warehouse after a one year hiatus due to the pandemic. To meet the latest government guidelines, the popular fundraising and mental health awareness event has been adapted to a Matinee Gig taking place from 4pm on Sunday, January 16 2022.

Organiser and founder of social impact firm Humanli, Karl Daly, said “We felt it was really important to press ahead with the event. Generating awareness for Mental Health and fundraising for charities is so important right now due to the ongoing pandemic. Plus, our performers want to get on stage and perform so we’ve done our very best to ensure the event is viable and safe for everyone.”

The fantastic line-up of acts ensures there is something for everyone and includes; classically trained soprano Leah Barniville who reached the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent at the age of 14 and local sensation Emma Langford. Ennistymon School Choir will perform a song written especially for the event by Susan O’Neill. The Lost Boys, Afro-Pop, and Stray Saints have also been confirmed.

2016 All-Star Mary Hulgraine will share her story about her mental health struggles and broadcaster and author Meghann Scully will briefly interview the supported charities.

Music for Mental Health is a social impact event linking artists, businesses and good causes to generate awareness for mental health in Ireland. All monies raised through ticket sales are shared amongst the seven charities within the Humanli family. They are Blue Box Creative Arts Therapy, Cliona’s Foundation, Clare’s Wish Foundation, Corpus Christi Primary School, Limerick Suicide Watch and Lime Tree Theatre.

This is the fourth Annual Music for Mental Health gig organised by Karl Daly. The first Music for Mental Health was launched as a once-off fundraiser in January 2018. But such was its success, within three years it raised €57,500 for good causes working on suicide prevention, domestic abuse support and advancement of education.

A limited number of tickets are now on sale on Eventmaster HERE  for this special afternoon of uplifting music.  Due to restricted numbers, tickets are expected to be sold out quickly.

Encouraging people to come along or pledge their support, Karl Daly said, “This event is about bringing awareness to the issues of mental health and the supports available while raising funds for the organisations that work at the coalface every day. January can be a bleak month for many, we need to shine the spotlight and support one another.”

Anyone wishing to support the cause instead of buying tickets, a fundraising page has been set up on Eventmaster HERE

The O'Malleys Confirmed For New Years Eve At Dolans

The O'Malleys Confirmed For New Years Eve At Dolans

In what has become a New Year’s Eve tradition in Limerick, Dolans Presents have today announced that legendary Limerick band The O’Malleys will once again play a very special New Year’s Eve gig Upstairs at Dolans on 31st December.

The O’Malleys have been playing together for almost 40 years and the band boasts some of the best musicians Limerick has produced. The range of instruments and influences brought to the group by each individual member are credited as that which gives the band it’s very unique sound.

Their New Year’s Eve gig Upstairs in Dolans is definitely not a night to be missed for all Limerick music lovers.

The O’Malleys started out as a three piece band playing a mix of country, blues and folk. They recorded an (E.P.) in Germany and were a main feature in the large folk scene across Europe.

They returned to Limerick and like Dylan went electric. The full band really gelled together with the legendary gigs in the Savoy. Under the stewardship of Brendon Murray they began a comprehensive touring schedule of Ireland, playing all the main venues (Midnight at the Olympia, Whelan’s, Dolan’s, Lobby, Cork Concert Hall, The Waterfront).

They released ‘The O’Malleys, The Record’ which resulted in television appearances including The Late Late Show, Pat Kenny Show, Sunday night at the Olympia, Brendan Grace Show and Shay Healy's Nighthawks weekly show. As the band got bigger, so did the tours – a memorable one across Europe in a red V.W. Van (God Bless it) as well as the States, England and Russia.

The O’Malley’s produced a new album last year which was launched to critical acclaim. Their latest offer, entitled Can You Hear Me, proved to be something very special.

After individual projects down through the years the band realised it was once again time to record as a band. The finished new album was recorded in ‘Red Door Studios’ in Limerick and produced by Dave Keary and James Hanley.

This new album was originally to take the form of a live album. Over time the concept changed when all members of the band realised they had a number of songs written over recent years that had yet to see the light of day. These original songs have now been given the true O’Malley workover.

The album has been described as ‘a small look back as well as a good look forward’ and includes nine original tracks and also features four great song interpretations.

Dolans look forward to welcoming the O’Malleys back to Dolans on New Year’s Eve. Tickets are on sale now and tickets are expected to be in high demand so early booking is advised. This gig is at 50% Capacity as per govt guidelines
