The Wedding Present Live in Dolans Friday September 26th.. Strictly over 18’s

Acclaimed indie rock front-runners from Yorkshire

The David Gedge-fronted Leeds outfit The Wedding Present have been at the forefront of British indie rock since the mid-80s. Their early singles and acclaimed 1987 debut George Best served as effective introductions to Gedge’s evocative song titles, heartsick lyrics and frantic melodies, while also making a firm fan out of DJ John Peel. It was 1991’s momentous Seamonsters that cemented the band’s place in indie rock history. Recorded with legendary producer Steve Albini, the intense, menacing album was as imposing as it was memorable, adding a brooding muscularity to Gedge’s darkest and most immediate songs to date.

Following the success of Seamonsters, Gedge took the unconventional step of releasing a new 7” on the first Monday of the month throughout 1992, eventually combing them together as Hit Parade. He would return to this format 30 years later for 2022’s 24 Songs project

Gedge put the band on ice in the late 90s to pursue a new project in Cinerama, but revived The Wedding Present in the early 00s for 2005’s Take Fountain. They were back with Steve Albini three years later for another acclaimed effort in El Rey. Valentina and Going, Going… followed before the band revisited George Best and their Tommy collection of early singles and sessions for their 30th anniversaries. A 30th anniversary tour celebrating Seamonsters followed.

In 2022, the band announced that they'd be returning to the format of Hit Parade and releasing two songs a month throughout the year, later collected as the limited edition 24 Songs box set.
