Dolans Presents have announced that five times Grammy nominee Joe Jackson will play University Concert Hall in Limerick on 13th March 2022.
The show will feature both the full band and a 'mini-set' of Joe solo. The songs will be drawn from Joe's whole career, including some that haven't been heard live in many years. Watch out also for some surprises, including some completely new material.
Joe Jackson is launching the new tour with the same band as his last, the successful Four Decade Tour of 2019, and his last album Fool: Graham Maby (Bass, Vocals), Teddy Kumpel (Guitar, Vocals) and Doug Yowell (Drums, Vocals, Electronics).
The tour will take the band to Limerick and to some cities Joe has never been played (Saarbrücken, Valencia) or hasn't played for a long time (Bordeaux, Lisbon, Oporto) as well as seven shows in the UK and new venues in Berlin, Paris and other cities.
Speaking in advance of the tour, Joe Jackson said: "We've been dealing with two viruses over the past two years, and the worst - the one we really need to put behind us - is Fear. Love is the opposite of fear, so if you love live music, come out and support it!”
Joe Jackson is best known perhaps for hits like 1979’s witty ‘Is She Really Going Out With Him’ and the sublime jazz-pop crossover smash ‘Steppin’ Out’ whose haunting urban dark keyed splendour is still the perfect soundtrack for a night-time foray into the neon-lit city.
A classically trained musician, Jackson has also moved effortlessly into soundtracks, tackled symphonic work and published an autobiography, A Cure for Gravity, which describes his early life and stops just as he is about to become a pop star.
After studying violin and piano at home in working-class Portsmouth, Joe Jackson played in the local clubs before winning a scholarship to attend the prestigious Royal Academy of Music in London where he studied composition.
Rather than pursue a classical career he opted for his first love, pop and rock – early bands included Edward Bear and Arms & Legs. Joe’s breakthrough came when he was signed in 1978 and given free rein.
Since then he has continued to add to an incredible body work.
His Limerick date as part of the Sing, you Sinners European is sure to be a must-see event.
