Dolans Presents have today announced that The Riptide Movement will play Dolans Warehouse on Saturday December 15th.
The band have toured extensively throughout 2016 & 2017 on the back of critically-acclaimed releases “All Works Out“, “Elephant in the Room” and “Changeling”. Coming on the back of their recent single launch, The Riptide Movement will play a Limerick December date.
The Riptide Movement are an Irish rock band formed in Dublin, Ireland in 2006 by vocalist and guitarist Mal Tuohy, guitarist John Dalton, bassist and harmonica player Gerry Mc Garry and drummer Gar Byrne.
The band released their first album What About the Tip Jars? in 2009. Their second album Keep On Keepin' On was released to great critical acclaim. It reached number six on the Irish Albums Chart, and major music retailer HMV sold out of copies within ten days of its release.
2010 saw the band tour nationally and play numerous festivals, including Electric Picnic, Festival Of The Fires, Indiependence, Sea Sessions and Knockanstockan.
In 2012 the band played their largest headline show at the Olympia Theatre, Dublin where they played to a crowd of 1,300, before continuing their tour around Ireland including Limerick. Following this success the band performed another Irish tour before doing the festival scene in Europe and a series of concerts in the USA.
The band signed a record deal with Universal Music in early 2014 ahead of the release date of their 3rd album Getting Through. The album was released on 4 April with a sell-out album launch at Vicar Street. The following week the album reached number 1 in the charts. Their single All Works Out was featured in an ad for Discover Ireland later that year.
The Riptide Movement’s new single has been recorded in London with producer Chris Coady (Future Islands, Slowdive). The new single features the kind of slow-burning, melodic indie rock that has seen the band build a substantial Irish following, racking up various #1 records and ready themselves to unleash their sound further throughout the UK / US and beyond.
2018 sees the band continue their heavy touring schedule with a series of gigs and festival appearances in coastal areas, using the track to spread the serious environmental message that our beaches, coastlines, rivers, cities and towns need to be kept litter and plastic free if society is to help prevent our oceans from becoming even more polluted by plastic waste.
Speaking on the track, lead singer Mal Tuohy states: “We’re honoured that our music will help raise awareness of one of the greatest environmental challenges of our time. Our reliance on single use plastics is destroying our oceans, so well highlighted by David Attenborough in Blue Planet 2. As the saying goes, ‘there are plenty more fish in the sea’ but if we can’t stem the tide of plastic, by 2050 there’ll be more plastic than fish in our oceans. The future is in our hands.”
The Riptide Movement will play Dolans Warehouse on December 15th. Tickets go on sale this Friday at 9am and can be purchased via https://dolans.yapsody.com/event/index/305236/the-riptide-movement
