Limerick’s own Brad Pitt Light Orchestra will return to Dolans this Christmas season for a very special gig at the Upstairs venue on December 23rd.
Doing what they do best, the band will reprise their traditional festive appearance at Dolans offering audiences a joyous evening of magical musical memories.
Practically all hailing from Limerick - with a dash of Galway and Australia - The Brad Pitt Light Orchestra's music is a blend of warm vocal harmonies, classy instrumentation and ear-catching melodies that is desperately hard to categorise yet strangely easy to love.
2010 saw the release of their debut album 'Lowering the Tone' including a collaboration with Paul McLoone of The Undertones and Today FM. The BPLO have since enjoyed plenty of airplay as well as appearances on The Late Late Show, The View, POP4, The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show and The Pat Kenny Show.
The Brad Pitt Light Orchestra will be joined on the night by special guest artist, the newly crowned RTE Emerging Folk Artist of the Year Emma Langford.
The band has made a name as one that produces a beautiful cacophony of sound translated into a vibrant, life affirming live experiences.
Strings, percussion, and bass sounds all come together for the seven-member outfit to produce acoustic magic. Described as a ‘truly unique prospect on the Irish music scene’, the Brad Pitt Light Orchestra blends their melodic talent with clever lyricism and biting humour.
In recent years the band have graced the Spiegeltent stage for the inaugural ‘Culture and Chips’ in 2014 as well as performing the world premiere of ‘The Unlucky Cabin Boy’. This musical theatre project saw their songsmith, David Blake, write songs and lyrics for the show with script written by Mike Finn and directed by Paul Meade of Gúna Nua as part of Limerick City of Culture 2014.
The band also toured with ‘Moondance: The Morrison Project’ which saw them playing the music of Van Morrison translated into the Irish language alongside Liam Ó Maonlaí and Hilary Bowe.
The Brad Pitt Light Orchestra first got together in the mid ‘90s but started playing again in earnest two years ago.
Lauded by the likes of Myles Dungan, Tom Dunne and Ryan Turbridy, the BPLO’s have built a loyal fan base through across Ireland. Their widely toured gigs are always very well received and the BPLO’s sound has been described as Tom Waits beating the Divine Comedy with Aimee Mann.
Oh come all ye faithful and enjoy some festive cheer in the height of the Christmas season, the boys and girl of bplo will enthrall and entertain you.
"Just when you think you've heard enough songs about Old Red (we've already ran with him, danced with him and had sympathy for him), along come Limerick groove rockers The Brad Pitt Light Orchestra with a fresh and fiery new take on devil worship. A reckless, grinding gem."
